Grey water is the waste water from showers, baths, sinks, and laundry.

You may choose to alter the type of detergents that you use to low or has no phosphorus. Generally, I look for  personal care products, soaps and detergents that are free of boron and very low in salts.

I live in Florida so we have seasons of frequent rainfall. Rain will leach salt out of the soil before it can build up to harm plants. However, an occasional salty product shouldn’t cause harm to plants.

Just over half of household water used could be recycled as grey water.

Just ensure the chemicals and soaps that you use in your home are safe for greywater use. .

There are systems available that provide an environmentally-friendly option for reusing greywater.

Not only are we saving money, but we are also saving gallons of water.

Rainwater, can be unpredictable, however, grey water is available every time you shower, wash dishes or clothes. It’s suitable for irrigating most flower beds, gardens and lawns.

Boaters are aware of greywater. It’s a major polluter of the marine environment. In some states, soap bubbles on the water’s surface are a reportable pollution offense.

Did you know there are even sunscreens that can harm delicate coral cells?

Water is interesting to me. I have loved it since I was a young child. It was always my drink of choice. That’s right, while others where asking for soda, I was asking for water. Then I learned to swim. My favorite pass time was to jump into the deep end of the pool and look up at the sun’s rays greeting me. The stillness. The silence. The beauty. Just me, water and sun….

Untreated water from our homes can damage plants and wildlife with harsh soap residues when they go down the drain. For me, if my choices can help the environment then I should do so. I look for products that leave water safe for reintroduction into the environment and for reuse in gardens.

So, have you figured out the four benefits for grey water?

  • Reduces Energy Use
  • Reduces Chemical Use
  • Lowers Water Bills
  • Better for the Environment

We recently visted Costa Rica. Their concern with the environment and natural resources, was refreshing and educational to experience how they care for the earth.

Every little change that we can make to improve the environment, I think we should.

Am I perfect, no way. Am I trying to continually improve?

You betcha!
