Clean Label, Clean Label Living and Clean Living seem to be a thing.

Clean Label Living. When I first heard this term it got my attention. Clean Label Living, I’m intrigued!

But what exactly does it mean? Is the presenter referring to what I put in my body or on my body? I just had to learn more. So, I began to research.

The definition of “clean” when referring to food or products can be confusing, because putting ‘clean’ on a label does not mean that it’s based on science.

You may have heard someone say, ‘clean protein’, ‘clean eating’, or even ‘clean label’.

Clean label is a consumer driven movement which demands that manufacturers use ingredients that don’t harm us and provide greater transparency to what is actually in a food or product.

I’ve heard “if you can’t pronounce it don’t eat it”. Well, in my opinion that’s going too far. There are many vitamins or minerals that you may not be able to pronounce but they are healthy.

There are words like formaldehyde or acetaldehyde that certainly sound like ingredients that we should steer clear of. However, they are naturally occurring in many foods.

So, yes, ‘Clean Label’ is important but lets be rational, too.

Look at this label. Scan it closely and decide would it be safe for a human to consume.

If someone listened to the advice “if you can’t pronounce it don’t eat it”, they may say, ‘no thank you’. I’ll stick with ‘clean’ foods.

The ingredient list above appears to contain scary-looking ingredients. All the ingredients on this list are 100% natural. None of them are pesticides, fertilizer, insecticides or other contaminants.

Chemistry Teacher, James Kennedy just shared with us: a banana.

Labels can be confusing

So, we have to trust the source. As I began my research on clean label living, I had a good handle on my food and drink choices. I did not however, have a great handle on detergents, air fresheners or soaps.

The Environmental Working Group states on its website. ‘Cleaning products, unlike foods, beverages, cosmetics, and other personal care products, are not required by federal law to carry a list of ingredients.

My research led me to learn about which ingredients I did NOT want in my products. Understanding that when I reach for a clean label alternative, I may reduce my exposure to the worrisome chemicals and compounds that surround me every day.

Ingredients we don't want
I was very good at looking at labels for what I wanted IN the product. Now I understand about ingredients that I DON’T want.

So, I made a choice to transform our home into a haven for our family’s health. I made a choice to learn about what ingredients I don’t want in our home or bodies thus ‘Clean Label Living’.

Although ‘clean’ is not a scientific term in the food industry it is important that products, whether they go on my body, in my body or in the environment they are staying up to date with the latest scientific trends.

I also look for products that are certified with the highest-quality ingredients, innovative, safe, effective formulas and manufactured with care. Including having earned the EPA Safer Choice label as well as those that are NSF certified, EWG verified, and even confirmed gray water safe.

Here are a few Clean Label products that I use and recommend:

  • SkinCare This collection includes a cleanser, toner, exfoliant, day lotion, and night cream. SO Nice!
  •  The Home Collection Everything I need to effectively eliminate stubborn dirt, grime, grease, and odors throughout our home, without harsh chemicals or unnecessary ingredients. Plus, they are biodegradable and gray-water safe.
  • Petcare Collagen for my dog. (don’t judge LOL)  This supports active and senior dogs and cats. The advanced liquid delivery system helps to maintain the structure, function, and flexibility of our pets’ healthy joints, muscles, and connective tissues.

To live clean is a daily choice. I make decisions about what goes into my body, what goes on my body, and what goes into my home environment.

So, what I learned is, Clean Label Living is a consumer-driven term. It’s about making the very best choices of food, supplements, drinks, household products, pet products or personal care products with the least amount of worrisome chemicals and using the most products with highest-quality ingredients, that are safe and effective formulas for all parts of our life.

Cool, huh?

Clean Label Living… it’s my thing.
